Given

The number that counts is dollars given.

Given is a social platform built on one inversion: the metric is what you gave, not what you posted. You see what the people you know give to, and they see you.

How it works

Showcase your giving

You choose an amount. Given shows you exactly what the charity receives before you send it, and what you earn for having given. Nothing is revealed after the fact.

Rank and standing

Six rungs, and a place on the one you're on.

Lifetime giving sets your rung. Where you sit inside that rung sets your position among the people on it — and you are only ever ranked against them. Move the slider and watch both change. Nobody's total is ever shown, including yours.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Is public giving a bit tacky?

It can be, and the instinct is worth taking seriously. Two things make it different here. Your lifetime total is never shown to anyone — what people see is that you gave, not how much you have. And there are no likes, no followers and no reach, so there is nothing to farm; the only response to a gift is to give to the same cause. If it still feels wrong, every gift can be made private and still counts in full toward your rank and credit.

Do I get a tax deduction?

That is between you, the charity and your tax professional. Given produces a statement of what you gave, when, and to whom; the charity issues the acknowledgment the IRS asks for. Given does not state a deductible amount, and because giving here earns credit, your gift may not be treated the same as a plain donation.

What does Given take?

3% of each gift, shown to you alongside exactly what the charity receives before you confirm. There is no subscription and no charge to the organizations.

Can I buy credit, or buy a trophy?

No. Giving is the only way to get credit, and credit is the only way to claim a piece. Credit cannot be bought, sold, transferred or cashed out, and it is worth nothing outside the app. Someone who has given more has a piece you do not, and no amount of money changes that.

Can people see how much I have given?

No. Your lifetime total is private to you. It sets your rank, and your rank is public, but the number itself is never shown to anyone else — including on the leaderboard, where positions are shown and amounts are not.

Which charities can I give to?

Registered 501(c)(3) organizations, each with an EIN on file. Nonprofits can apply to be listed at no cost.

Is Given a charity?

No. Given is an independent company and not a nonprofit, a bank, or a money transmitter. It passes gifts to organizations that are registered charities, and it is not affiliated with any of them.

When can I use it?
